Shocking Sexism from Telford: When “Political News” Crosses the Line into Misogyny

It’s hard to believe we’re still having to confront blatant sexism and misogyny in 2025, but here we are. Recently, a statement surfaced from a supposed “political news” platform based in Telford that left us utterly stunned. The comment? "Isn't it time to stop putting women in inappropriate jobs like prison guards, frontline police, army or fire brigade? Down with equality."

Honestly, we couldn’t believe our ears—or our eyes. How can anyone, let alone a supposed voice of the community, spout such dangerous nonsense? The sheer ignorance and prejudice embedded in that statement are breathtaking. It’s a textbook example of sexism—suggesting women are inherently unfit for demanding, high-stakes roles based solely on their gender. And worse, it’s dressed up as “discussion,” when really it’s a thinly veiled attack on equality itself.

This Is Not Just Sexism—It’s Misogyny

Let’s be clear: this statement isn’t just about women’s suitability for certain jobs. It’s a deliberate attack on the very idea of gender equality. The phrase “inappropriate jobs” implies that women are naturally unsuited for roles like police officers, army personnel, or firefighters—positions that require strength, resilience, and bravery. But these stereotypes are outdated, unfounded, and dangerous. Women have proven time and again that they can excel in these fields, breaking barriers and smashing stereotypes.

The call to “Down with equality” is particularly troubling. It echoes a misogynistic worldview where women are seen as lesser, as objects or accessories rather than individuals with agency, skills, and rights. This kind of rhetoric fuels discrimination, discourages girls and women from pursuing their ambitions, and perpetuates a culture where women are undervalued and dismissed.

The Person Behind the Screen: A Cause for Concern

What makes this even more alarming is that the person behind this statement reportedly has been involved in teaching women’s self-defense classes. Imagine the hypocrisy. Someone who claims to empower women by teaching them how to protect themselves is also spouting sexist drivel that undermines their very rights and dignity. It’s deeply concerning—what message does this send to women who are trying to gain confidence and assert their independence?

Women should be able to pursue any career they choose without fear of being dismissed or belittled based on outdated stereotypes. The fact that someone involved in empowering women is spreading such misogyny raises questions about their true motivations—and about the culture that allows such contradictions to exist.

Could This Be a Sign of Incel Ideology?

There’s a disturbing possibility here: could this individual be an incel? Incels—short for “involuntary celibates”—are men who harbour resentment and hostility toward women, often blaming them for their own lack of success. They are associated with misogynistic beliefs, entitlement, and sometimes violent outbursts. Stereotypes of incels paint them as men who see women as objects or obstacles, and who often promote toxic masculinity.

If this person aligns with incel stereotypes, it explains their extreme views—viewing women as inferior or unworthy of respect, and rejecting the very principles of equality and mutual respect. It’s a dangerous mindset, rooted in bitterness and a profound misunderstanding of human rights and dignity.

Women’s Rights: A Call for Respect and Equality

Despite these troubling attitudes, we must remember that women are capable, resilient, and deserving of every opportunity. They are not objects or lesser beings; they are sisters, mothers, daughters, and friends. They deserve respect—not disdain. Men should see women through the lens of admiration and equality, recognizing their strengths, talents, and humanity.

The fight against sexism and misogyny is ongoing, and it requires us all to stand up against hateful rhetoric wherever we see it. We must challenge these harmful stereotypes, call out misogyny when it appears, and support women in their pursuit of equality in every sphere—be it the workplace, politics, or personal safety.

The statement from Telford’s so-called “political news” platform, and closely aligns itself with such groups as Britain First, UKIP and Reform UK Ltd, is a stark reminder that sexism and misogyny still lurk beneath the surface of our society. It’s unacceptable that such ideas are tolerated—or worse, celebrated. Women’s rights are human rights, and we must continue to advocate for a future where every woman can live free from discrimination, objectification, and prejudice.

Let’s remember: men are not enemies of women. They are allies. We need more men to see women as they see their sisters, mothers, and aunts—worthy of respect and equal treatment, not as objects or obstacles. Only then can we truly move toward a society that values everyone equally.
