Understanding the UK’s Financial Challenges

Image
UK Economy Series - #ExposingtheTruth Behind Politicians' Lies About Your Money Understanding the UK’s Financial Challenges:  Why Cutting Costs Isn’t the Solution Just a couple of months after the general election, it's clear that the Labour Party is facing a funding shortfall.  This was expected, as experts predicted that the financial plans accepted by Labour from the Office for Budget Responsibility would lead to a lack of funds for essential programs.  This issue is evident with the two-child benefit cap, and winter fuel allowance for Pensioners, and even more problems are likely to arise. The government doesn’t have enough money to meet its obligations and needs to find more.  While increasing taxes on wealth is an option, there are other solutions too.  One potential change is to stop paying interest on the central bank reserve accounts held by commercial banks with the Bank of England. Confused? Ok, let’s break this down:  When the government spends ...

Council Newsroom Still Wrong

Image
Telford & Wrekin Council Newsroom - Published Story Still Wrong Following confusion caused by Labour led Telford and Wrekin Council's own "Newsroom" where they were  contradictory and uncertain if it was outline planning permission, or full planning permission, that was discussed for the Sportsfield on land between Overdale and Newdale, we made a formal request for clarrification, which while having taken time to respond, they have confirmed the newsroom incorrectly reported, and the planning discussed was full. However, at the time of writing, the councils own Newsroom is still showing the incorrect and potentially confusing information. Errors like this cast a shadow of doubt over the accuracy of the other articles published by the borough council. It is understood that ward Councillor, Mark Boylan complained on social media as to the one sided reporting by the newsroom which portrayed him incorrectly. So here at LNTF3 our small team of elves have been busy, and hav...

Planning SportsfieldPart2Sept24

TranscribedP2 TWC0357Sept24 [Chairman Cllr Reynolds] Peter Scott please. [Cllr Peter Scott] My colleague on my right tells me I can go now, so I will. Okay, thank you. I actually like this, this particular one. I think there should be more of these throughout the country, now mine in the borough. I know in my particular town we give our right arm for it, it's an excellent thing to have. The noise has been dealt with to a point because it's going to finish at 8 o'clock, I mean come on, you know, they're not going to go until past 10, 11 o'clock, it's 8 o'clock, so that's good in itself. The only real problem I've got with this is Waterloo Road itself, because there's a dirty great long straight there and we watched today and a lot of traffic has no problem with those speed bumps whatsoever. They whip straight over it, it's a 30 mile an hour zone but a lot of them weren't doing 30. I know there's supposed to be some a new crossing put ...

Sportsfield Confusion Continues

Image
Planning Permission Granted for Newdale Sportsfield Amidst Confusion and Delays In last Wednesdays planning meeting, Telford and Wrekin Council granted "outline planning permission" for the development of the Newdale Sportsfield, formerly known as Overdale Sportsfield. The council approved plans for a new all-weather 3G pitch, a nine-a-side grass pitch, and a single-storey pavilion with kitchen, toilets, and changing facilities. However, some residents expressed disappointment, as previous discussions with local councillors had suggested a larger "clubhouse" would be built. Was this a case of over promising prior to elections, or a simple lack of understanding the differences between a clubhouse and pavillion by local councillors? The project also includes landscaping, improved access, and enhanced parking facilities, with features such as disabled parking, coach parking, bicycle storage, and electric vehicle charging points. Despite previous lack of documented inte...

The Illusion of Prosperity

The Illusion of Prosperity: Unpacking the Myths and Realities of Freeports and SEZs Alongside the Labour Chancellor's flip-flop from wanting them scrutinised back in April 2024, to now not wanting scrutiny by the NAO (National Audit Office) in August 2024, the uproar surrounding Teesworks and the Teesside Freeport has cast a spotlight on the controversial nature of freeports and special economic zones (SEZs). The government's confirmation of eight new investment zones for the 2024-25 financial year, with more on the horizon, underscores the need for a critical examination of these ventures. Despite their allure of economic revitalisation, the underlying risks and inefficacies of SEZs remain a pressing concern. A government-commissioned review of Teesworks published in April 2024, found no concrete evidence of corruption or illegality. However, it highlighted significant flaws in decision-making and transparency, questioning the value these zones truly offer.  Critics argue that...
