As the political landscape in the UK continues to shift, one thing remains tragically constant: the relentless persecution of the sick and disabled. 

After 14 years of conservative governance that saw the systematic dismantling of support structures for the most vulnerable, the Labour Party's recent pivot to out-Tory the Tories promises more of the same. This article serves as both a rallying cry and a stark warning: the next five years are set to deepen the suffering of those already crushed under the weight of discriminatory policies.

From the outset, ableism has plagued the Labour campaign. The only mention of disabled people revolves around plans to push them into the workforce, with no consideration for the poverty that has engulfed them. 

There was no mention of reversing the draconian measures implemented by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which continue to accelerate unchecked. The silence on these critical issues speaks volumes.


By the time this new government seeks a second mandate, the sick and disabled will have endured nearly two decades of unrelenting hardship. UK politics, in its stampede towards populism, has only exacerbated this plight. History has shown us that such ideological shifts often lead to catastrophe, and it is the weak and vulnerable who bear the brunt. The populist lurch of the Labour Party to the right threatens to make a dire situation even worse.

However, there is hope. The Telford GUARDIAN and Truth Tracker Telford are not prepared to remain silent.
