Celebrating Historic Election Results

While Labour enjoy their so called "super majority", won on the basis that they are not the conservative party, and absolutely no policies that can drive a progressive train through the promised "more of the same" presented in their manifesto, we find there is a party that has broken all their previous records, locally and nationally.

In a remarkable display of electoral prowess, the Green Party has emerged victorious in the recent elections, marking a significant milestone in their political journey. 

With all results in England and Wales now declared, the Green Party has much to celebrate. Here are some compelling facts and figures that underscore the party's unprecedented achievements:


Record-Breaking Performance: 

Total Votes

The Green Party has captured the attention and support of over 1.8 million voters across England and Wales, representing a substantial 7.2% of the total vote. This milestone not only establishes a new record high for the party but also surpasses their previous record of 1.1 million votes and 3.8% in 2015. 


Impressively, this year's vote tally witnessed a remarkable increase of 1 million votes compared to 2019, culminating in the party hitting the upper limit on Short Money funding for a group of 4 MPs. Moreover, the Green Party secured over 20% of the vote in 15 seats and over 10% in 97 seats.


Broadening Appeal: Urban and Rural Success

The Green Party's appeal transcended geographical boundaries, with their average vote share increasing by 2.8 percentage points in rural areas and a notable 5.8 percentage points in urban constituencies. 


Noteworthy local achievements include doubling the votes cast in Telford and The Wrekin, where the party garnered 5% and 6% of the vote, respectively.


Impressive Rankings: Top 3 Finishes

Securing 2nd place in 40 constituencies, the Green Party showcased its growing influence, with each of these seats being won by the Labour Party. In London, the Greens claimed the 2nd spot in a quarter of the seats and featured in the top 3 positions in approximately half of the constituencies. 


Across England and Wales, the party attained a 1st or 2nd-place finish in every region except the North East, which still yielded commendable results. Additionally, the Green Party clinched 3rd place in 42 constituencies.


Financial Triumphs: Saving Deposits

A remarkable feat was accomplished by saving 358 deposits, a significant increase from the previous record of 123 in 2015. This success translates to a substantial £179,000 returning to local party bank accounts, providing a financial boost for the upcoming county elections. 


Notably, London stood out by saving 91% of their deposits, while other regions and Wales achieved savings ranging from 50% to 75%. 


Green Party in Scotland also made valuable contributions, saving 12 deposits, particularly in Edinburgh and Glasgow, where they polled 10% in multiple seats.


Head-to-Head Battles: Outperforming Competitors

In a series of notable victories, the Green Party triumphed over Labour in six seats, including their four target wins, as well as Isle of Wight East and Cheltenham. Additionally, they outperformed the Tories and Reform in 65 and 75 seats, respectively, representing 11% and 14% of the total seats. Noteworthy competition with the Liberal Democrats saw the Greens emerge victorious in 284 seats. Moreover, the Green Party excelled against George Galloway's Workers Party in approximately 90% of contested seats.
